The National Police has already captured 33 people for crimes against life in the province of Colón. Of these, 21 were for homicide and 12 for attempted homicide, in more than 530 search procedures carried out during the months of January and February of this year.

Security Minister Juan Manuel Pino indicated that most of these crimes occur due to rivalry between gangs.

“These groups try to take and control more land in relation to the drug trafficking operation. The internal problems between them, where some have gone over to other sides, have generated these confrontations”, explained the minister.

For his part, the Drug Prosecutor of Colón and Guna Yala, Eduardo Rodríguez, indicated that so far this year, more than 16 tons of drugs have been seized nationwide, of which more than five tons have been seized in the province. of Columbus.

From January 1, 2022 to date, the staff of the Public Ministry has requested more than 300 videos from the Colón Regional Operation Center, which have served as evidence for the prosecution of people linked to crimes of homicide, robbery and theft.

So far this year, in the province of Colón, during raids and search and control operations, more than 50 firearms have been confiscated. Taking these weapons off the streets prevents other crimes from being committed.
