President Juan Carlos Varela  has delayed the appointment of at least 20 important authorities in different State entities. This, despite the fact that the positions are vacant for several months.

Apart from the three magistrates of the  Supreme Court of Justice who must appoint to replace Alejandro Moncada Luna , Jerónimo Mejía and Oydén Ortega , it is pending the appointment of three new representatives of the private company in the board of directors of the Social Security Fund ( CSS) and a manager in the Savings Bank (CA), as well as a list of authorities in several courts.

Lina Vega , president of Transparency International, Panama chapter, said that this situation undermines the institutional framework and affects the quality of democracy.

“Institutionality is not an abstraction, it is about the fulfillment of processes, among which is obviously to designate people with the requisite academic and ethical requirements,” he added.
