Visits by national and foreign tourists to the protected areas of the province of Chiriquí are already allowed, after the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) decreed lowering the yellow alert to green alert in four provinces and the Ngäbe-Buglé Comarca, authorizing access to the four protected areas of the province as of July 4, 2022.

Access to the Volcán Barú National Park, the Gulf of Chiriquí National Marine Park, the La Amistad International Park and the La Barqueta Agrícola Beach Wildlife Refuge will be allowed, as long as they comply with the entry times and prerequisites, remembering the biosafety regulations, said the Ministry of the Environment (MiAmbiente).

The environmental entity authorized the entrance to these natural areas, after the Hydrometeorology Directorate of the Electric Transmission Company SA (ETESA) reported that for the moment, “monitoring and vigilance are maintained due to the instability of the climate due to the passage in the next few hours of Tropical Wave No. 13 (typical of the season)”.

Similarly, MiAmbiente urged the population to follow the recommendations of the park rangers stationed at each Control Post, and to be attentive to the prevention notices issued by Sinaproc or the Emergency Operations Center (COE) and inform themselves through official accounts.

To date, more than 10,000 tourists have entered the four protected areas of the province.
