Laurentino Nito Cortizo , of the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD) , yesterday became the first presidential candidate of the political parties to present the figure that will accompany him as vice president in the face of the general elections on May 5.

This is the lawyer, businessman and delegate of the PRD José Gabriel Carrizo Jaén , who was ratified by the national directory of the collective with 271 votes of the 278 members who were accredited to vote.

Cortizo announced his running mate six months after being elected presidential candidate of the PRD. The announcement was made amid cheers, applause and murgas that were concentrated yesterday at a hotel in the capital.

Carrizo Jaén, who was accompanied by his family, was defined as a young man proud to be an inter-American who will actively participate and with responsibility as vice president.

He said that his family is everything. And his children owe their behavior “straight, strict and attached to the law … I will not disappoint,” he said.

The PRD also said that it represents the young people who are present and now in the country, for which he thanked the appointment.

“With humility and a lot of responsibility I accept the appointment to become a candidate for vice president …”, he said.
