Panama registers 2,080 new infections of covid-19; one new death reported

The Department of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health (Minsa), reported that to date 896,924 accumulated cases of covid-19 have been registered in Panama, of which 2,080 are new positive cases in the last 24 hours.

For this Wednesday, a new death is reported and a death from previous dates is updated for 8,314 accumulated deaths and a lethality that remains at 0.9%.

The total number of people recovered from the disease amounts to 867,480, of which 1,998 are newly recovered today. 11,133 tests were applied for a positivity of 18.7%.

Active cases total 21,130 throughout the country. 20,853 are in home isolation and 277 hospitalized. Those in isolation are divided into 20,820 at home and 33 in hotels. Those hospitalized are 243 Ward and 34 in ICU.

The districts with the highest number of positive cases today are: Juan Díaz (Panama) with 86 cases; San Francisco (Panama) 85 cases; Rufina Alfaro with 75 cases; Bethania 66 cases and Bella Vista (Panama) 63 cases.

Vaccination report

Meanwhile, the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI) revealed that to date 8,330,397 doses of vaccines against covid-19 have been applied; of them 3,481,467 first twos; 3,111,420 second dose and 1,606,499 first booster dose.

433,086 pediatric doses have been placed in children between 5 and 11 years old; of which 279,619 have been in the first dose for a coverage of 87.7%.

Coverage in the population older than 5 years is 87.7% with a first dose; and with a second dose 78.4%. Coverage in the first booster dose from the age of 16 is 51.2%.

Panama Receives New Batch of Vaccines

On the other hand, the Minsa, through the PAI, announced that Panama received a new batch with 250,700 doses of the Pfizer vaccine against covid-19 for adults.

It fell to the general director of the PAI, Itzel de Hewitt, to receive this new batch, and reported that, to date, it has added more than 10 million since January 2021, when the first group from the pharmaceutical company Pfizer arrived.

“We have a series of strategies for the application of vaccines to people house by house, vaccination in schools, vaccination in your neighborhood, in casinos, home, public institutions, private companies and on weekends vaccination is contemplated in malls,” Hewitt said.

The official indicated that vaccination statistics at the national level in the first reinforcement are 80% and in the second reinforcement 71.9% and that there is 20% of the population that is not yet vaccinated.
